You-Elevate is an internship program that aims to empower high school youth by providing them a platform to gain entrepreneurial skills and jumpstart their professional careers. The You-Elevate Internship Program pairs students at exciting TDSB approved co-op placements with local Toronto startup companies. Through the program, students will learn what goes into sustaining a business along with transferable skills such as time management, communication skills, critical thinking, analytical skills, and many more.

YOU-ELEVATE EVENTS COMMITTEE (x2)

The events committee are tasked with the responsibility of developing and executing numerous events, workshops, and conferences designed to build the skill set and qualifications of co-op students. As a member, you will be managing and directly interacting with the co-op students. An important part of your role will involve ensuring that all students are fully immersed in entrepreneurial culture, as well as experiencing growth and improvement through the program. 

Preparing students for internships and hands on experiences will be done through directing engaging and educational workshops on skills required to be successful in a startup. You are expected to continuously measure progress and adjust the program according to the results. You will collaborate with a team to execute events, workshops, conferences, and actively grow the organization.

YOU MUST HAVE....

  • Interest in entrepreneurship 

  • Interest/ Experience in event planning

  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and meet short deadlines

ASSETS (NOT REQUIRED)....

RESPONSIBILITIES….

  • Design and direct engaging educational workshops on skills required to be successful in a startup 

  • Measure progress and adjust the program according to the results. 

  • Organize facilities and coordinate required details to execute events and conferences such as connecting with start ups and schools, connecting with university clubs to collaborate on events etc…

OUTREACH ASSOCIATE (X3)

Outreach Associates act as the direct point of contact between schools, startups, and ambassadors of YouElevate and Enactus. As an Outreach Associate, you will be working closely with schools to connect their co-op students with startups partnered with Enactus. You will also be responsible for identifying and developing partnerships with new startups in the Toronto region.  

Since you will be managing co-op students, there is the added responsibility of ensuring that all students are fully immersed in entrepreneurial culture and are actively performing within their internships. You will be responsible for identifying the needs of both the students and the startups to ensure that students are prepared and qualified to perform successfully in their internships.

YOU MUST HAVE....

  • Interest in entrepreneurship 

  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and meet short deadlines

ASSETS (NOT REQUIRED)....

  • Past involvement in the Toronto startup community is an asset

Catapult is a financial literacy project that aims to educate and empower marginalized groups through the delivery of custom financial literacy workshops in community centres around the GTA. We work directly with individuals to understand their unique financial positions, helping them set and reach their financial goals. Last year, we partnered with 12 newcomer and youth organizations and equipped 275 people around the GTA with financial knowledge.

CATAPULT JUNIOR ASSOCIATES (x6)

Junior Associates will assist in reaching out to new community organizations to expand Catapult’s impact, as well as maintain existing partnerships. They will take part in delivering financial literacy workshops and customizing workshops to best fit the needs of the participants and partner organizations. Junior Associates will also take part in the development of Catapult’s financial literacy video series, Catalyst.

YOU MUST HAVE....

  • Strong verbal and written communication

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Prior knowledge of basic financial literacy (e.g. personal finances)

  • Adaptable, fast-learner

  • Passionate and enthusiastic about social entrepreneurship

RESPONSIBILITIES....

  • Research and establish sustainable partnerships with organizations

  • Maintain existing partnerships and act as a liaison between partners and Catapult to help create customized financial literacy workshops

  • Effectively help develop and deliver Catapult workshops to participants on a variety of financial literacy topics

  • Assist in the development of Catalyst (Catapult’s financial literacy video series)

  • Participate in a mentorship opportunity with Catapult’s Senior Associates

Enact-a-preneur (ETP) is a pro-bono consulting program that accelerates the growth of local startups and aims to address the issues surrounding entrepreneurs that prevent them from being successful. Our teams of consultants provide value-adding solutions that are specific to a startup’s financial and organizational challenges.

Last year, ETP took on some of the most innovative startups in Toronto. Our student consultants had a front row seat in witnessing and contributing to the growth of top tech ventures in AI, computer vision and big data. ETP associate consultant (x12)

This role creates impact in every step of the client consulting engagement: as one of the engagement team members, s/he will work closely with the Engagement Manager to conduct client acquisition, develop consulting objectives, produce business insights and deliverables. 

With support from the Engagement Managers, the Associate Consultant takes ownership on meaningful pieces of the consulting engagement to realize or solve the client’s opportunities and challenges.

BioPeels

In Canada, 2.2 million tonnes of edible food is wasted each year, of this quantity 30% of the food wasted are vegetables, and 15% of  are fruits. In order to tackle this problem Enactus UofT is currently in the process of developing an artificial peel that can be applied to various different kinds of fruits of vegetables to increase their shelf-life. 

We plan to develop this “peel” by using waste products to create a thin, bioplastic layer we can spray onto fresh produce. We’re currently looking into potato starch and chitin based bioplastics however, we’re interested in any new ideas that YOU have to offer. 

PRODUCT DEVELOPER (x3)

BioPeels is looking for creative, dedicated, and innovative product developers to help design a sprayable “peel” that can be applied to fresh produce in order to increase their shelf life. 

YOU MUST HAVE….

  • Working on a degree or equivalent practical experience in chemistry, materials engineering, nanotechnology or other related fields

  • Good laboratory practices

ASSETS (NOT REQUIRED)….

  • Experience developing personal / independent projects

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Able to commit a minimum of 4 hours a week towards the project

  • Drive product vision and design discussions 

  • Assist in designing and performing experiments related to bioplastic development and optimization

  • Adhere to all safety and good laboratory practices as per WHMIS guidelines

RevoTech

RevoTech aims to reduce the amount of electronic waste produced as a result of consumers upgrading their devices well before their engineered lifespan is over. This not only reduces the amount of new devices purchased in the low-midrange price points, but also increases the quality of devices held by customers, as they are getting higher end models at the same price.

BACK-END DEVELOPER (X1)

YOU MUST HAVE….

  • Experience with object oriented languages, particularly Python

  • Familiarity with Git/version control software

  • Strong time management and an ability to meet deadlines

  • Willingness to learn new technology quickly and work in a team

ASSETS…

  • Previous experience with machine learning, particularly Tensorflow

The External team in Enactus focuses on networking with external organizations and companies to establish partnerships and funding for Enactus UofT. The External team focuses in developing collaborations both with student clubs and external companies.

  • Develop fundraising activity plans and events that maximize participation and contributions while minimizing costs

    • Recruit sponsors, partnerships, or volunteers for fundraising events 

    • Secure commitments of participation or donations from individual and corporate donors

  • Identify potential collaborations between Enactus portfolio groups and valuable, outside organizations including local start-ups and entrepreneurial accelerators in Toronto

EVENTS & INTERNAL

The Internal team focuses on developing Enactus UofT both as a team and as a student club. The Internal team runs events to improve team cohesion, and networking events for both associates in Enactus and students at UofT. The Internal team is also responsible for helping other portfolios in hiring passionate students both in May and September.

This year, Internal aims to:

  • Run events for the entire Enactus team at least twice a semester

  • Increase the awareness of Enactus UofT within the University of Toronto

  • Develop an alumni program within Enactus UofT, where graduated Enactus UofT students can offer mentorship and coffee chats with current Enactus UofT associates

DIRECTOR OF EVENTS (x2)

he Internal Director of Events will work collaboratively with the entire internal team in planning and executing events through the 2019-2020 school year in order to improve team cohesion and increase club awareness. These events and initiatives include fundraising events, team socials, Enactus Regionals and Nationals exposition, and various workshops throughout the year.

DIRECTOR OF TEAM EVENT (X2)

This role primarily focuses on engaging with and organizing Enactus’ first-year internship program. This internship program provides first-year students with the opportunity to explore Enactus’ various portfolios on a smaller scale. With support from the VPs of Internal and the Directors of Events, the Directors of Team Development will work to organize social activities and workshops for the first-year interns, as well as for the entire Enactus team. 

YOU MUST HAVE…

  • Leadership skills and motivational ability 

  • Ability to work collaborate well within a team environment to reach goals 

  • Strong time management and organizational skills 

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and group facilitation skills

RESPONSIBILITIES…

  • Hiring, maintaining, and organizing the first-year internship program

  • Assist the VPs of Internal in organizing and running key Enactus events, such as Enactus Connects, and planning socials for the entire 90-member Enactus team

MARKETING & DESIGN

The Marketing & Design team are the creative brains behind everything in Enactus! Our team brings ideas to life by creating material such as promotional videos for our projects, advertisements to promote upcoming events, managing the Enactus UofT website and social media accounts, and gathering footage and creating videos for the annual Enactus Regional and National competition.

YOU MUST HAVE…

  • Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro (preferably) or other video design software
