Hoops Up is a readiness initiative for at-risk youth transitioning into adulthood. Through basketball, Hoops Up aims to promote physical and mental well-being, while developing self-confidence, independence, and employable skills in youth from identified priority neighbourhoods in Toronto. This is achieved through a series of curated professional development and skill-building workshops, as well a program delivering training in technical basketball skills and basketball coaching. Successful completion of a Hoops Up program aims to equip these youth with the skills to successfully obtain employment, and confidently transfer these skills to perform beyond their potential in other areas of life.
We offer programs in the summer with 2 weekly workshops: one focused on resume and cover letter writing, the other one on interview skills. Each workshop will be followed by a one-hour gym session. Participants will learn from an NCCP certified basketball coach at the end of the sessions, and become a certified children’s basketball coach equipped with professional skills.
